This time of year holiday parties, family gatherings, shopping and travel all pile onto the calendar for a festive, if somewhat hectic, month. But behind all the busy-ness, it’s an ideal time for remembering the true blessings in life: family, security and, hopefully, good health. When talking with your clients this month, remind them that if good health fails us, we can still offer our families financial security with disability insurance.
Ask your clients to compare the expense of holiday shopping to the costs of adequate DI coverage. While many of us don’t think twice about making sure there are plenty of gifts to exchange this time of year, only 30% of job holders make sure they would be covered if struck with a long term disability.
Even the most extravagant gifts tend to lose their value over time. But that’s hardly the case with DI. A 25-year-old worker making $50,000 a year would lose $3.8 million in future earnings if they suffered a permanent disability. While a new car (or piece of jewelry or really cool electronic device) does make an impressive gift, your clients will undoubtedly see the value of a DI policy in comparison.
After all the celebrations have wound down and the decorations are back in storage, many of us struggle for a month or two to pay off all the revelry. It’s easy, when facing an extra large credit card bill, to imagine how difficult it would be to continue to pay bills without the ability to work. In fact, 50% of Americans couldn’t pay their bills for even a single month without a regular paycheck.
The best gift your clients can give their families this year is the peace of mind that their financial situation won’t change if illness or injury interrupt their ability to earn a paycheck.
