How to speak with your clients about Disability Insurance

Many insurance brokers are aware of the issues regarding disability and know they need to speak to their clients, but the conversation is often difficult. Many people are convinced that standard disability and health insurance would help cover their needs if they needed it, but they are unaware of how much they risk sacrificing in an unforeseen moment of need.

But how do you start a conversation? We've got a few ideas to help get you started that we've seen work in the field.

Share real-life stories with your clients

According to the Council of Disability Awareness, around 25% of today's 20-year-olds will become disabled sometime before they retire. Even more so, most people don't realize that accidents are typically not the reason why people become disabled, meaning that those that work in offices or low-risk jobs are still just as likely to become disabled during their career.

Still, it can be difficult for people to picture if you simply throw numbers in their direction, especially if the client is a little more cautious about sales.

If you have stories of your own to share, it can really add a new perspective for the clients to see what they may be missing in the conversation surrounding disability insurance. If you don't have any of your own from your clients, we have some stories we've pulled together for you to share with them below.

Utilize helpful visuals
