Disability Insurance Awareness Month
Tuesday, May 16, 2017
For several years now, Life Happens and the Council for Disability Awareness have joined insurance professionals to raise awareness for the need for disability insurance. Why is it so important? While three in ten people would benefit from disability insurance at some point their career, many don’t see the value until it’s too late. Before you dismiss this article as something for “other people,” see why disability insurance may be of importance to you.
Are you healthy? If this is your top reason for putting off disability insurance, we can certainly understand. However, just like health insurance, disability insurance should be established while you are in good health. Trying to resolve financial difficulties in the midst of a health crises will only make matters worse. Take a few minutes today, while your wellbeing isn’t an issue.
Are you afraid that a disability insurance claim won’t be paid? We’ve all heard nightmarish claims about unfulfilled policies. The truth is that, though it will never make headlines, millions of dollars are paid in disability insurance claims each year. A reputable insurance company will work to ensure you are paid fairly. But rest assured, you’ll never be paid for a policy you don’t purchase.
Do you already have life insurance? Life insurance and disability insurance cover different circumstances. Though both results are undesirable, each is possible and worth preparing for.
Are you banking on SSDI, savings, or your employer’s disability insurance plan? While these are good supplements to a personal disability insurance plan, none can be a replacement. Social Security Disability Insurance is typically around $1,100/month, which isn’t enough for most people to continue their current lifestyle or even live comfortably. Savings is often depleted quickly in the face of rising medical expenses, and employer’s disability insurance plans can be greatly limited in their efficacy.
We know that disability isn’t a pressing matter for the healthy. But what can be an uncomfortable subject today can be vitally important tomorrow. Take the time to speak with an agent about your options. We’ve eliminated fear and confusion over disability insurance so that you can have peace of mind.
