Combining Life and Disability Insurance

We know it can be difficult convincing your clients of how necessary disability insurance is. Most understand that life insurance is absolutely necessary for making sure their loved ones are taken care of in the untimely event of their death, but most are still skeptical of the idea that over 25% of today's 20-year-olds will become disabled before they retire.

Because of this, it's important to provide offers that will open the conversation and make it more affordable for your clients. The added cost of disability insurance can be daunting, especially when they have the "it will never happen to me" mentally.

Fortunately, there are now bundled plans that can help sweeten the deal. Income Protection Resource Group offers a Life + DI discount through Ohio National. Through this plan, your client will save 10% on disability insurance while ensuring that they and their loved ones are fully covered for unfortunate situations.

This may not sound like much at first, but consider this example:

  • Hannah, a 35-year-old small animal veterinarian, is a non-smoker in good health. She buys a DI policy with several riders and a $4,800 monthly benefit along with a 10-year, $1.5 million Term Plus policy.

  • Hannah saves $25.22 on her monthly DI premium with the Life + DI discount, nearly enough to cover her $29.41 monthly premium on term.
We recommend helping your client find the right balance of term and DI coverage - if they only go for the minimum amount needed to trigger the discount, they could be missing out on important coverage.

Applicants qualify for the Life + DI = 10 percent discount when they apply for the DI policy alongside the life policy, or within 90 days of the life policy issue date. Minimum face amounts are required for the life policy which can be term, permanent or a combination of the two.
